Shenandoah Music Association was organized in 1947 as a way to bring musical diversity to the area with programs that range from ballet to opera to bands.
Originally called the SW Iowa Civic Music Association, the group was founded by Dr. & Mrs. M.W. Anderson. The first concert was in the fall of 1947. Performing was the Griller Quartet from Britain. This article is from the November 1947 issue of Musical America and shows the Grillers with the first officers of the organization.
The Shenandoah Musical Association drew up its Articles of Incorporation on August 30, 1967. In 1994 a seven-foot grand Steinway piano was donated by Bruce Stevens in memory of Jeannie Stevens Miller and Donovan Stevens. Bruce Stevens was the President of Steinway and Sons Worldwide at the time.
